Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities (AHSC) Program Puts $Billions to Work on Sustainability in California

National CORE and the Housing Authority of the County of San Bernardino (HACSB) have secured $15.8 million from the California Strategic Growth Council (SGC) to advance the fourth phase of redevelopment at Arrowhead Grove, a pivotal affordable housing community in San Bernardino. This funding, part of the Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities (AHSC) program, includes an $8.7 million loan for housing construction and a $7.1 million grant dedicated to community enhancements. These improvements will encompass upgraded sidewalks, bikeways, and public transit infrastructure, all aimed at fostering a more sustainable and accessible living environment for residents.

The upcoming phase of Arrowhead Grove will introduce 92 all-electric, mixed-income apartments featuring advanced sustainability measures, including photovoltaic solar panels, electric vehicle charging stations, and xeriscape landscaping. With a focus on long-term climate resilience and community well-being, this development will incorporate design elements to address extreme heat and promote energy efficiency. The project also integrates comprehensive community outreach and partnerships with nonprofits to offer a range of support services, including workforce development and health programs. This effort underscores a commitment to enhancing both the quality of life and environmental stewardship in San Bernardino.
