New LEED and EPA ENERGY STAR-Certified Housing Development Opens in New York
Governor Kathy Hochul has announced the completion of Station 25, a $22 million affordable housing development in Albany that includes 51 apartments within a newly constructed five-story building adjacent to the historic Fire Signal Equipment Building. This initiative is part of a broader effort to revitalize the Park South neighborhood, providing critically needed housing while preserving a significant piece of local history. The project boasts various community amenities such as a fitness center, playground, and a community room, enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
Certified by the US Green Building Council’s LEED for Homes Program and the EPA Energy Star Multifamily New Construction Program, Station 25 incorporates energy-efficient features like Energy Star-rated appliances and advanced heating and cooling systems. Supported by state and federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, the project exemplifies Governor Hochul’s commitment to addressing New York’s housing crisis through innovative solutions and investments. With over 1,500 affordable homes created or preserved in Albany County in recent years, Station 25 stands as a testament to the potential of adaptive reuse in meeting housing needs while fostering community resilience.
