Meritage Homes Releases 4th Annual ESG Report

Meritage Homes, the fifth largest homebuilder in the U.S., has unveiled its 2023 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report, highlighting significant strides in energy-efficient homebuilding. Utilizing the RESNET® HERS® Index scores as a key environmental metric, the report reveals that the homes constructed by Meritage in 2023 achieved an impressive average HERS Index Score of 52. This score indicates a substantial reduction in energy consumption, resulting in an estimated annual savings of over 102 million kilowatt hours of electricity and a reduction of 157.4 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions. The commitment to energy efficiency is further demonstrated through compliance with leading certification programs, including ENERGY STAR®, which ensures that homes exceed building codes by at least 10%.

In his remarks, Steven J. Hilton, Executive Chairman of Meritage Homes, emphasized the company’s dedication to innovation and quality in energy-efficient homebuilding. The ESG report also highlights the company’s ongoing support for RESNET initiatives and its significant achievement of constructing over 126,000 ENERGY STAR-labeled homes since 2009. Hilla Sferruzza, Chief Financial Officer, reinforced that Meritage’s sustainable practices are integral to their mission, focusing on affordability, community, and environmental responsibility. As the green home building industry continues to evolve, Meritage Homes stands as a leading example of how commitment to ESG principles can drive both business success and positive environmental impact.
