College team builds net zero electric home for international competition

Donated by the city of Ogden, Utah, students from Weber State University built an all electric, net zero energy home as part of their entry for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon. About 150 schools applied to be part of the event, and Weber State University’s home was among 10 around the world selected to compete and prove their project is worthy of top honors.

They broke ground in December and are awaiting a certificate of occupancy from the city, a short amount of time from start to finish.This project was the senior project for over 30 students.
