Grid-Optimized Solar-and-Battery Systems

In the past few years, the solar panel industry in the United States has been in a running battle with the nation’s electric utility lobby over solar’s proper place in the power resource mix. The controversy centers around the policy called “net metering.” When a power company bills its customers based on net metering, utility customers with solar panels on their roofs get paid their retail electric rate for every extra kilowatt-hour (kWh) their panels push out into the grid.
