The NGBS Green +RESILIENCE certification recognizes homes that exceed standard building codes by at least 30% in resilience and durability, incorporating features like on-site renewable energy and battery storage systems to maintain functionality during disruptions. This certification, acknowledged by HUD’s Green Resilient Retrofit Program, aims to promote sustainable building practices and enhance disaster preparedness in residential construction.

Compliance Criteria

Required to earn the +RESILIENCE certification:

  • Design report demonstrating that the home/building has been designed and constructed to provide at least 30% enhanced resilience and durability beyond structural requirements of the IBC or IRC, as applicableĀ 
  • Demonstration of specific building practices for enhanced resilience and identification of their features and benefits in homeowner or multifamily occupant manual
  • Demonstration of on-site renewable energy and a battery energy storage system
