Schoenecker Center Earns LEED Gold for Green Construction
The University of St. Thomas’ Schoenecker Center has recently achieved LEED Gold certification, according to a press release from the university. Designed by RAMSA and BWBR Architects, with construction done by McGough, the 130,000-square-foot facility incorporates energy-efficient HVAC systems, LED lighting with advanced controls, and low-flow fixtures and has a 241,000-gallon cistern to collect rainwater.
These — plus other LEED-certified buildings on campus — have reduced construction waste and cut carbon emissions by over 51% in the last decade. The university has also reported roughly $1 million in savings annually from its energy costs.
