Southern California needs more affordable homes

Los Angeles and Orange Counties have a shortfall of more than 660,000 homes affordable to the poorest families in the region — those earning 50 percent or less than the median income, a new series of housing reports from the nonprofit California Housing Partnership shows. In Los Angeles County alone, there’s a shortage of 568,255 homes affordable to “very low-income” households, or those earning less than $35,000 a year.
