Art and living come together for a vibrant community at Studio 3807
By Julia Edinger
Located in Brentwood, Maryland, in the heart of the Gateway Arts District, Studio 3807 successfully combines residential living with art to create a vibrant development that engages its residents with creativity, sustainability, and community.
In 2013, Landex Development, LLC started working on Studio 3807, a project completed through a forged public-private partnership with Prince George’s County. The mixed-use community has many of the traditional amenities (fitness center, yoga studio, media lounge, conference room, and a courtyard with a fire pit and grills) in addition to more unique amenities that set it apart (art gallery, special resident events with local artists, and bike sharing and Zipcar). Landex worked for three years with the community and its stakeholders to discuss the vision for what Studio 3807 would be and what that would mean to the community; this inclusive approach to planning helped create a unique development, which would not only provide a place to live, but one that would enhance living.
Studio 3807’s story truly began in 2001, when members of the community, both artists and community stakeholders, came together to designate the Gateway Arts District as an Arts and Entertainment District in order to promote economic development. The artists of the community themselves became the inspiration for Studio 3807, with the goal of promoting both the arts and the artists themselves.
