The Top 10 States for LEED Reflect a Commitment to Green Building Across the U.S.
One thing each state within the U.S. has in common is having the opportunity to be a part of a national growth in sustainability. Based on LEED-certified gross square footage per capita over the past year, the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) annual Top 10 States for LEED ranking showcases the leadership of individual states.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the launch of the LEED rating system. LEED has become the world’s most widely used green building program since its inception a quarter century ago.
In a recently published article on the USGBC website, the homebuilding sustainability organization has detailed the top 10 states for LEED, with Massachusetts leading the pack.
According to the article, in regards to the top state, With 34 million square feet of building space certified with LEED last year and a total of 132 projects, Massachusetts continues to set a high bar. The state consistently makes the list and last ranked number one in 2022. In addition, the state has historically been a leader in opt-in building codes to encourage decarbonization of the built environment.
